Letter from the Principal

Larry Ganan Thumb

Hello Admiral Byrd Community,

My name is Larry Ganan and I am thrilled to be starting year three as the principal of Admiral Byrd Elementary. I believe that continuing to form strong partnerships between families and the school can build upon the successes we had last year.  I am looking forward to another great year!

This will be my seventeenth year in CCSD59 and my 22nd overall in education. I started in this district as a sixth-grade math and science teacher at Friendship Junior High for seven years before being named an assistant principal at Salt Creek Elementary. After three years there, I moved to Clearmont Elementary to serve in the same role for four years. This stretch of my professional life spent in Elk Grove Village has shown me that it is a wonderful community, and I am so happy to continue to be a part of it.

As a parent, I truly understand the importance of elementary education. It is our job to lay the foundation for our students. We must give them the skills to continue to learn and grow throughout their academic careers. I understand that creating a safe and friendly environment is crucial for our students, and I strive to create this atmosphere for them. I stress the importance of teaching the whole child, and our job as educators is to not only strengthen academics but also to equip our students with the social-emotional skills they will need to be successful in life. These past years have been difficult for so many, so I know that it is critical that we provide a nurturing environment that allows our students to be successful. As parents, you are the most important people in your child’s life, and we will need to work together for your child’s benefit. I humbly ask your support to ensure a successful school year for all. I know that by working together we can achieve tremendous success for our students.

I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) over the coming years. I have an open door policy, and I value your input. As I stated previously, this is a joint effort. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or Mrs. Carzoli, our assistant principal. We are here to support you and your children throughout their time at Admiral Byrd. I cannot wait for the year to get started!

With the highest respect, dedication, and commitment,

Larry Ganan
