Letter from the Principal

Mary Ellen Esser 2019 Web 2

Hello! Welcome to the 2020-21 school year! Last school year proved to be most unique and this year also appears to present some uncommon learning situations, but we are making plans to provide what is needed for the Byrd Community to face the challenges presented this school year.

It is my pleasure to serve as the principal of Admiral Byrd Elementary School, Home of the Penguins, and to work with amazing students, staff and families. We are prepared to accept students where they are on their learning path and to move them forward to be the best they can be. We are preparing all students to be successful for life.

Over a long career in District 59, I have had the opportunity to work in seven of our wonderful schools as both an ESL teacher and administrator. Most of my career has been to proudly serve as the principal of Admiral Byrd School and to be a part of the many outstanding things we achieve here and how we support students through all of life’s joys and challenges.

I firmly believe that all students should be afforded a world class education and achieve their fullest potential. Each child is unique, and the Byrd staff strives to provide what is best for each child. To this end, we are dedicated to employing modern learning strategies, and the Byrd staff diligently work to design a caring, academically stimulating and supportive environment for our students. We encourage parental involvement and understand how much it means to our children when their parents engage in school activities. Working together, we can create a positive and rewarding educational experience for all of our students at Byrd.

Please continue to explore our website and discover more about Admiral Byrd School. As you explore, should you have any questions, please call us at (847) 593-4388. We would be happy to schedule a visit so you can learn more about our school, when that is safely possible. We would be happy to answer any of your questions or tell you more, as we are very proud of our school and we welcome visitors.

Please feel free to call or email me ([email protected]) any time.
