Letter from the Principal

Larry Ganan Thumb

Hello Admiral Byrd Community,

I would like to take this moment to introduce myself. My name is Larry Ganan and I will be serving as the next principal of Admiral Byrd Elementary. I am so excited for this next chapter in my professional life, and I believe that a strong partnership between families and school can lead to a successful school year for all.

First off, I want to tell you a little bit about myself. This will be my fifteenth year in CCSD59 and 20th overall in education. I started in this district as a sixth grade math and science teacher at Friendship Junior High for seven years before being named named an assistant principal at Salt Creek Elementary. After three years there, I moved to Clearmont Elementary to serve in the same role for four years. This stretch of my professional life spent in Elk Grove Village has shown me that it is a wonderful community, and I am so happy to continue to be a part of it.

As a parent of a ten-year-old, I truly understand the importance of elementary education. It is our job to lay the foundation for our students. We must give them the skills to continue to learn and grow throughout their academic careers. I understand that creating a safe and friendly environment is crucial for our students and I strive to create a welcoming atmosphere. I stress the importance of teaching the whole child, and our job as educators is to not only strengthen academics but also to equip our students with the social emotional skills they will need to be successful in life. This past year has been difficult for so many, so I know that it is critical that we provide a nurturing environment which allows our students to be successful. My motto this year is to “embrace the challenge that is ahead of us.” I think we all understand that this pandemic has put stress on everyone, so as a staff, we will do whatever is necessary to help our students continue to grow both academically and emotionally. As parents, you are the most important people in your child’s life, and we will need to work together for your child’s benefit. I humbly ask your support to ensure a successful school year for all. I know that by working together we can, indeed, embrace the challenge and have an amazing school year.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child(ren) over the coming years. I have an open door policy and I value your input. As I stated previously, this is a joint effort. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or Mrs. Jablonski. We are here to support you and your children throughout their time at Byrd. I cannot wait to get started!

With the highest respect, dedication, and commitment,

Larry Ganan
